One of my favorite things about Fall are all the TV shows that come on! It’s a time of my life where things quiet down before the holidays begin and all the festivities ramp up.
Before the busyness starts, I’m a huge fan of spending cozy nights in. The air is crisp and chilly, and all I want to do is get in my warm bed and curl up with a good Netflix series! Hibernation season is about to be in full effect.
With that said, I thought it was the perfect time to share what’s on my TV lineup for the next couple of months. Time to get that Uber Eats order fired up and get ready to binge watch!
New Shows This Year:
YOU:
(Lifetime)
You is about a guy (Penn Badgley) who meets a girl who he instantly likes, then he uses social media to get close to her. (Veeery 2018!) He gets extra creepy about it and basically begins to stalk her during the time he’s not with her. So, he’s pretty much always with her and she’s unaware of it! The other half of the time, he’s dating her and “getting to know her” in person.
My Thoughts: It takes a sinister turn at the end of the very first episode and it hooks you right in! I’m loving it.
MANIFEST:
(ABC)
Passengers on a plane experience a bit of turbulence, but land safely after a 3 hour flight. Except, when they land, they learn it’s actually been 5 YEARS since their plane took off and they had all been presumed dead! No one on the plane has aged at all and they have to return to their lives changed after the time that has passed.
My Thoughts: After watching two episodes, I haven’t decided if I’m going to continue. I’m not sure they can keep the story going long without people losing interest. I feel like this plot is better suited as a short story, Black Mirror style. We’ll see.
INTO THE DARK:
(Hulu)
This anthology series releases one horror episode on the first Friday of every month. (First one premiered October 5th) Each episode is themed by a holiday of that month. So, the first episode was centered around Halloween, the second one in November will be Thanksgiving, December – Christmas, and so on, for a total of 12 episodes for the year.
My Thoughts: I haven’t seen this one yet, but it’s on my list to check out. I’m intrigued by the format. And something about associating horror with a holiday is SO scary!
Returning Favorites:
SHAMELESS:
(Showtime, Older seasons on Netflix)
I think most people are watching this show and if you’re not? Get on it! To all my Chicagoans – this is required viewing! People hadn’t heard of this when I first starting talking about it years ago, (I felt so alone!) but now that past seasons are available on Netflix, it’s getting the shine it deserves!
It’s about a dysfunctional family that has to deal with the consequences of their absentee alcoholic father’s actions (hilariously played by William H. Macy!)
My Thoughts: It’s definitely a dark comedy, (which is my favorite genre!) but, if that’s not your thing – steer clear. This family is pretty…well, shameless. This is not a kid friendly show, it’s on Showtime for a reason!
THE GOOD PLACE:
(NBC, Hulu, Older seasons on Netflix)
This show is about a woman named Eleanor (Kristen Bell) who dies and arrives to a heaven-like afterlife, “The Good Place.” Due to her past bad behavior on earth, she realizes she was sent to The Good Place by mistake due to an error. She tries to fit in and hide her not-so-morally perfect character for fear of getting found out and sent to “The Bad Place.”
My Thoughts: I finished the entire first season in one day! (Catch up on Netflix) Season 1 has a surprise twist ending that I didn’t see coming!
OZARK:
(Netflix)
This show is about a man (Jason Bateman) who moves his family from a Chicago Suburb to the Ozarks in order to set up a money laundering operation for a Mexican drug cartel.
My Thoughts: I admit I got a little bored with this show pretty early in the first season and quit watching. But then SO many people kept talking about it being worth it – I decided to pick it back up again. I heard season 2 is a must watch!
THIS IS US:
(NBC, Hulu)
I’m not a crier, but this show makes you cry EVERY. DAMN. EPISODE. Seriously, it’s exhausting. I can’t explain this one too much without spoiling. It’s a show about family dynamics and real people.
My Thoughts: JUST WATCH IT. You’ll fall in love with every single character.
RIVERDALE:
(The CW, Older seasons on Netflix)
I know, I KNOW. Not another teen show – with teenagers that don’t act like teenagers. 🙄 It’s no OC or Gossip Girl, but this murder mystery drama is one of my guilty pleasures. Last season was a little much and sometimes made me cringe, but the fact that it’s based on the Archie Comics (except a darker take) I collected as a kid always keeps me coming back.
My Thoughts: Who doesn’t love Betty & Veronica? I’m just obsessed with this world! It has its flaws, but I’ll give it another chance this year. It gets me nostalgic! I guess I’ll have to deal with it’s over the top-ness as it’s kind of becoming this show’s thing.
FYI: The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is premiering this month on Netflix. (A reimagining of Sabrina The Teenage Witch) This series is based on the comics as well, which is in the same universe as Riverdale. Who knows, there might be some crossover episodes!
